Terms & Conditions
Effective October 2026 · checktenr.com
These terms govern your use of TENR — the checktenr.com website, the TENR Upload resident app, TENR text messages, and any report link a resident shares with you. By signing up, creating an account, or opening a shared report link, you agree to these terms. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your information.
1. What TENR is — and isn't
TENR is a record-keeping tool. It helps extended-stay motel and hotel residents document their payments and turn that history into a report they can choose to share with a landlord.
Residents verify their own stays and payments with their own proof. Motels and hotels are not asked to confirm payments and are not part of the process.
TENR is not:
- A guarantee of housing, credit approval, or any landlord's decision
- A credit bureau or credit repair service. TENR does not currently report to credit bureaus. Any credit score shown on your record is self-reported by you, clearly labeled as such, and not independently verified by TENR
- A source of legal advice. TENR does not track or advise on tenant-status thresholds, eviction protections, or other landlord-tenant law. That's your motel's responsibility to disclose, and you should consult a qualified attorney or tenant advocacy organization for anything related to your legal rights as an occupant
TENR is in an early testing stage. Features may change, and accounts open city by city.
2. Who can use TENR
You must be at least 18 years old to create a TENR account. Accounts are for people documenting their own housing payments, not on behalf of someone else.
- Motel program: if you're staying at an extended-stay motel or hotel, tracking and sharing your report are free
- Everyone else: tracking your payments is free. Sharing your report (links, QR codes, and printed reports) requires a one-time fee, shown before you pay. The fee covers sharing until you sign a lease and is non-refundable
Landlords, property managers, and other viewers may access a report only through a link or printed QR code a resident has chosen to share with them. No account is required to view a shared report.
3. Your account
- The information you provide at signup must be accurate. It's how we verify you're a real, unique person and prevent duplicate accounts
- You sign in with a one-time code texted to your phone. Keep your phone and codes private
- Contact us at hello@checktenr.com right away if you think someone else has accessed your account, you've lost access, or you've changed your phone number
- Your account and payment history stay with you, not your phone number. If you change numbers, confirm your last name and a motel you've stayed at (current or former) on the sign-in page, then verify the code we text to your new number and your existing PIN. If that doesn't match, you can recover your account in person, at a library, or through a case manager if you have one. Your report is locked until we confirm it's you
- One account per person. Creating multiple accounts to misrepresent your payment history is a violation of these terms
4. Submitting payment proof
Every payment you submit must be a genuine record of a payment you actually made for the place where you're staying.
TENR doesn't require your motel to confirm your payments. Your proof comes from your own records: receipts, card receipts, and money orders.
For all payments
- How you can upload depends on how you paid. Cash proof must be photographed in the TENR app. Card receipts and money order stubs can be uploaded through the TENR app, by text message, or on a computer at checktenr.com
- When you submit an image, TENR runs an automated check to confirm it looks like a real receipt or money order. If it doesn't, you'll be asked to confirm before submitting. If you proceed anyway, it's marked Invalid on your record
- Each payment is labeled by how it was verified, such as "Money order," "Card — receipt," or "Cash — receipt"
- Proof uploaded after its time limit below is still accepted, but marked "logged late"
- You can edit an entry within 72 hours of posting it. After that, changes go through TENR's correction-request review. Entries can't be deleted; corrections are added as notes so the record stays complete
Cash payments
- Take the photo in the TENR app at the front desk, at the time you pay. Photos from your gallery won't be accepted, and there's no upload window for cash
- The motel receipt must be clearly readable and show the date, amount paid, and motel name. Your name or room number should appear if the motel includes them
- The front desk, counter, or motel signage must be visible in the photo. Don't include staff faces
- Photos taken away from the motel, or with missing or default time and location, won't be accepted
- Showing the cash itself is optional. Don't display large amounts of cash in public
Cash payments are labeled "Cash — receipt." When the photo, payment pattern, and other records line up over time, they may be labeled "Cash — corroborated."
Debit and credit card payments
- Upload a photo or scan of the card receipt within 24 hours of paying, by app, text, or computer
- The receipt must be clearly readable and show the date, amount, and motel name
- Cover or crop out anything beyond the last four digits of your card number
Card payments are labeled "Card — receipt."
Money order payments
- Before handing it over, photograph the filled-out money order with your phone, in the TENR app or by text, showing the serial number, amount, date, and payee
- The payee must be the motel or hotel where you're staying, and the amount must match your payment
- Keep your customer receipt stub, and upload it within 24 hours by app, text, or computer
- Money orders must come from a recognized issuer, such as USPS, Western Union, MoneyGram, or a major retailer
TENR may check the serial number with the issuer. Money order payments are labeled "Money order."
Submitting an image you know isn't genuine proof of your own payment — a stock photo, an unrelated document, someone else's receipt or money order — is an attempt to falsify your record and may result in your account being closed and your report marked no longer valid.
5. How your record is shown
For everyone
- Your record covers your full stay, from the start date you provide to the present. Weeks without proof show as "Not documented"
- Each payment is compared to your motel's due date and time and shown as on time or late, including how late
- You can't choose which payments or date ranges appear
What landlords see in your shared report
- How many months had a late payment in the last 12 months, and how late (under 5 days, 5–14 days, or 14 days or more)
- How many payments you made, and how many were on time
- Which weeks are documented, and how each payment was verified
- Where you stayed, with dates for each location
- Weekly payments are summarized by month. A month is shown as late only if at least one payment that month was late, and it shows how late the latest payment that month was. Even though you pay weekly, a late week counts as one late month, the same as a monthly renter paying late once
What only you see
- Percentages for on-time payments, documented weeks, and verified payments, with counts beside each
- Patterns in your record, such as which days your late payments fall on or which weeks are missing proof
- A housing readiness checklist and tips for strengthening your report
Your personal view is never shared with landlords. TENR does not give you or your report a score.
6. Sharing your report
You control who sees your report. You can share it two ways: by sending a link, or by handing a landlord a printed report with a QR code. Either way, it's your choice.
- Viewers must enter their name and property before opening your report, and we'll notify you when your report is viewed
- You can lock your report at any time, including by replying LOCK to a view alert. A locked report can't be opened until you unlock it
- Once you sign a lease, all of your shareable links and printed QR codes are deactivated and can no longer be opened. Your report has done its job, and your history stays private from then on
- You can mark yourself as leased in the app. A landlord who rented to you can also report it from your report page. Either way, we'll text you to confirm with YES or NO, and nothing is deactivated until you confirm
- TENR can't un-share information someone has already seen, so be thoughtful about who you share your report with
7. If you're viewing a shared report
By opening a shared report, you agree to:
- Enter your real name and property name
- Use the report only to evaluate the applicant who shared it with you
- Not copy, sell, or share the report with anyone else
- Understand that the applicant is notified when you view their report
- Understand that motels and hotels do not confirm payments. Each payment is documented by the resident and labeled by its type of proof, such as money order, card receipt, or cash receipt
- Make your own leasing decision and follow all fair housing laws. A TENR report supplements your screening; it doesn't replace it
Using the report doesn't create any relationship between you and TENR beyond viewing it.

9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit false, fabricated, or someone else's information as your own

- Use TENR to harass, defame, or retaliate against a motel, landlord, or another person
- Interfere with or attempt to get around TENR's identity, photo, or receipt verification systems

10. Suspension & termination
We may suspend or close an account for violating these terms, including confirmed falsified receipts. You can ask us to close your account at any time by emailing hello@checktenr.com. See our Privacy Policy for how your data is handled after that.
11. No warranty
TENR is provided "as is." We work to keep it accurate and available, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that automated verification will catch every problem or never flag something incorrectly. Report a problem to us and we'll do our best to fix it.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, TENR and its founders aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including a landlord's decision made using a report, or downtime affecting your ability to submit a payment on time.
13. Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and let you know by text or email before they take effect. TENR is early-stage, and these terms will evolve as the product does.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
